Acceptable use policy

What agencies and their clients may not do with an AhoyDesk receptionist, and what happens if they do.

Updated October 3, 2026

AhoyDesk answers calls and chats for real local businesses. This policy keeps it that way. It applies to every agency, its team, and the businesses it sets up. It is part of our terms of service.

Don’t

  • Make outbound calls or spam. The receptionist answers incoming calls and chats. Don’t use it for robocalls, cold calling, text blasts, or to answer numbers you advertise to people who didn’t ask.
  • Pretend. Don’t set up a receptionist for a business that hasn’t agreed to it, or impersonate a real person, business or government body. When a caller sincerely asks whether they’re talking to a person, the receptionist must not claim to be one.
  • Offer it as an emergency service, or tell callers it can handle emergencies on its own.
  • Record without the notice the law requires. Don’t remove or hide the recording notice.
  • Collect what it shouldn’t: card numbers, bank details, passwords, government ID numbers, or health details beyond what a booking needs.
  • Give professional advice through it, such as medical, legal, financial or safety instructions beyond the basic precautions it already gives.
  • Use it for anything illegal, or for a business that is illegal where it operates. That includes gambling, weapons sales, adult services, and anything harassing, hateful or deceptive.
  • Abuse the service:
    • get around limits (minutes, demos, test calls);
    • share accounts across agencies;
    • attack, overload or probe AhoyDesk;
    • copy its prompts or tests to build a competing service;
    • build receptionists from websites you have no right to use.

What happens if this policy is broken

  • We may pause the receptionist or the account involved, usually after telling you and giving you a chance to fix it.
  • For something serious or illegal, we may pause it immediately and report it where the law requires.
  • Repeated or serious breaches can end the agreement, without a refund for the current term.
  • We tell you what we did and why, unless the law forbids it.
