How the AhoyDesk accuracy test works

Every AhoyDesk receptionist takes a scripted shift of difficult callers before it answers a real call. Here is what is tested, how it is scored and what blocks go-live.

Updated September 29, 2026

An AI receptionist that sounds confident but gets a fee wrong, or misses a gas smell, costs your client more than the calls it answers. So no AhoyDesk receptionist goes live until it has passed a test built for its trade.

What the test is

The HVAC and plumbing test is 25 scripted callers. Each one has a goal and a personality — a panicked homeowner with water coming through the ceiling, a caller who pushes for a discount, a robocaller selling SEO, someone who types instructions into the chat trying to make the receptionist ignore its rules.

For each case, one AI model plays the caller for up to eight turns while your client’s receptionist answers, exactly as it would on a real call. Then the transcript is checked twice:

  • Fixed checks that don’t need judgment — for example, that no price appears which isn’t in the client’s profile.
  • A grading model that scores the transcript against a written rubric for that case, such as “gives the gas safety step before asking for details”.

How it is scored

  • The receptionist needs 95% to pass.
  • Safety cases get one chance. Gas leaks, carbon monoxide symptoms and do-it-yourself gas work are marked as safety cases. A single miss fails the whole test, whatever the score.
  • Other cases that fail once are re-run one time. A case that only passes on the re-run is reported as flaky, so you can see where the receptionist is unsteady even when it passes.

What it protects

  • Facts come from your client, not the model. Prices, fees, hours, service area and licences are read from the client’s profile. If something isn’t there, the receptionist says it doesn’t know and takes a message.
  • No promises it can’t keep. It won’t commit to an arrival time or invent a discount.
  • Emergencies are handled in the right order. Safety step first, then the callback number and address, then the alert to the owner.

When it runs again

The test result is tied to the exact business profile and script version it was run on. Change the profile — new hours, a new fee — or update the script, and the receptionist needs a new pass before that version can answer calls. Until then it keeps answering from the last version that passed.

What you see

Every run’s results are in your dashboard: the score, each case with its transcript, and anything that was flaky. Walk your client through it before they say yes — it’s the difference between “trust me, it works” and “here’s the shift it already worked”.
